Films, such as Saving Private Ryan, are more close to what actually happened than most, but there are still some inaccuracies. After watching Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers the younger generation could easily be forgiven for thinking the Americans were the only country involved in World War Two! It is easily overlooked that the Americans, whose mainland was not bombed, had four years of war whereas the British had six years with their homeland being bombed. Earlier American war films generally had a predictable story line where the central all American hero leads a bunch of surly, loud mouthed mental retards to victory. Along the way the uncouth brigade become an efficient fighting force! There is always the obligatory flag saluting and shouting Yes ... Sir! At every opportune moment. CONTINUED
