After World War Two, many ex-service people who had genuinely seen excessive action wanted nothing more to do with militarism. At that time it was a general feeling; most conscripts were only too pleased to get out of military uniform and return to civilian life. The hell imposed upon them for the previous six years front line war service was far from their choosing and something they had to come to terms with. The majority of those who had experienced excessive front line action were physical and mental wrecks. Most, including Dad, faced hardship, through no fault of their own, such as poverty, homelessness, and unemployment. It would have been totally out of the question for them to consider joining veteran associations or have anything to do with militarism again. CONTINUED
